Algeco UK donate safety barriers to major summer volleyball tournaments
Story
Algeco UK has kindly donated security and crowd barriers to Skyball Beach Volleyball Club for two of the biggest volleyball tournaments taking place in the UK at Bridlington Beach soon.
Algeco is perhaps better known for supplying storage and shipping containers and is a market-leading supplier of portable and modular buildings across the UK and Europe, used in schools, hospitals and office locations.
But a growing part of their business is providing building and site solutions to companies of all sizes such as security lighting, fire alarms, climate control systems, access ramps, generator hire and more. This is part of the company’s ‘360 offering’ which allows clients to move into a ready-to-use facility from day one.
Just one aspect of this 360 offering to businesses, and showing its flexibility for temporary events, is supplying crowd control and security barriers for major music events and exhibitions, with equipment provided by Algeco UK being used to create pedestrian walkways or queuing lanes to direct crowds safely.
The first of the major events featuring Algeco UK barriers happening this summer is the Northern Open, part of 4star UKBT Series. The UK Beach Tour (UKBT) is the UK's national competition for beach volleyball players.
The second event is the NEVZA Youth Beach Volleyball Championships 2024. It will see four competitions being held across two age categories – U18 Girls, U18 Boys, U20 Girls and U20 Boys. An international audience is expected as all NEVZA member countries – Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Faroe Islands and Greenland – are being invited to join England in taking part.
The Northern Open will see over 120 players and staff arrive, while Junior NEVZA will see over 300 players, staff, volunteers and family members coming along.
With it also being the height of the British summer, many passers-by are expected to stop by the popular Yorkshire beach resort to watch the competitions, taking place from June 21st to 28th.
Pete Makowski, co-founder of Skyball Club, said: “We need the barriers as they are crucial for players' safety and to provide privacy. We require them to be light to carry and look great on the beach, while durability is very important too. As such, the barriers provided by Algeco fit the bill perfectly. It’s a great company supporting local communities.”
Steve Hampshire, Head of Construction at Algeco UK, added: “We are delighted to help with these two important events on the UK volleyball calendar by donating the use of the barriers from our Carnaby factory, making sure everyone is kept safe while enjoying themselves watching and taking part in this exciting sport."
