Social Value - our commitment to society

Social Value is the contribution that an organisation makes to society by delivering economic prosperity, social good and environmental responsibility. It forms a part of our Loops within Loops business strategy and can be measured by proxy or actuals, through quantitative and qualitative approaches.

At Algeco UK, we are in the process of listening, engaging and collaborating with our stakeholders to learn more about the social value our activities can deliver.

Our key social focus areas are to deliver modular solutions by providing smart spaces that benefit the communities where we operate, to provide a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, and to foster a diverse and inclusive culture.

Providing Safe Spaces

Our modular solutions are used for schools, healthcare facilities, housing and other vital social infrastructure. As we develop new products and solutions, and adapt and reuse existing units, we work closely with our customers and the communities that they support to ensure that we deliver a positive social benefit.

One of our recent projects - Hatchlands Primary was built to high sustainability standards and achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating. This means it is within the top 25% of buildings in terms of sustainability, aligning with the goals of Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.

Promoting Social Enterprises

We have sourced and introduced a range of products from Social Enterprises, offering our customers the same specifications (or better), whilst making a positive impact for social good.

The new Algeco UK product range includes building signage, drinking water dispensers, period products and flooring.

We are offering internal and external signage from a Social Enterprise that provides job opportunities for vulnerable people where more than 75% of the workforce has a disability or a health condition.

The flooring is made by a Social Enterprise that redirects discarded carpet tiles, grades them and supplies them to community organisations and businesses across the UK.

These partnerships are delivering benefits for all parties and each product generates a Social Return on Investment. Learn more about our Social Enterprise Partnerships here.

Algeco Andy Volunteering

Volunteering & Community Engagement

Each of our employees are entitled to take one (paid) day to volunteer for a cause or a charity at their choice. Every year, our Charity Committee also facilitate an internal vote to identify a company's charity, for which we commit to raise funds. We also offer apprentices, host study tours, and engage with local communities to develop knowledge and skills of the sector and ESGS in young people.

"Your support in allowing Andy [one of our employees] not just to help Royal Artillery veterans but other veterans within your organisation is very commendable and I hope also a shining example to other businesses on not just how to support but also recognise the value of Military veterans within your set up." - a feedback from Davy Provan, Fire Mission Chairperson, on the paid volunteering hours that our employees are encouraged to take to support charities of their choices."
