WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are recruiting for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team at Algeco UK. This is a pivotal role that will support the delivery of high-quality financial reporting, control, and compliance activities across the business. You will work closely with the Financial Controller and wider finance team to ensure month-end close, balance sheet integrity, and statutory obligations are met, while helping to drive improvements across processes, systems, and internal governance.
This role is based at our Stockton-on-Tees office with flexibility to work from home (TBD). 

PURPOSE

The Senior Financial Accountant will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of Algeco’s financial reporting and control environment. You will be responsible for preparing and reviewing key balance sheet reconciliations, supporting audit readiness, and assisting with complex accounting areas such as revenue recognition, cost of sales, fixed assets, leases, and provisions. The role will also support improvements in financial governance, provide technical support to junior team members, and contribute to the evolution of our finance function.

WHAT WE DO

Algeco is the UK leader in modular and portable building solutions. We support a broad range of sectors with innovative space and storage solutions, including modular buildings, secure storage containers, welfare units, and temporary site accommodation.
The UK Finance team is responsible for:

  • Accurate and timely financial and management reporting
  • Compliance with IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Audit preparation and statutory submissions
  • Treasury, lease, and fixed asset accounting
  • Business partnering and financial insight
  • Supporting integration, transformation, and improvement initiatives

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Preparation and review of key month-end journals and reconciliations
  • Maintenance and review of balance sheet control accounts
  • Fixed asset register maintenance, depreciation reviews, and capital expenditure monitoring
  • Lease accounting support under IFRS 16, including right-of-use asset and liability schedules
  • Participation in internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules
  • Working with other finance functions (e.g., Commercial Finance, Shared Services) to ensure accuracy and alignment
  • Assisting in the development and documentation of finance policies, controls, and procedures
  • Identifying process improvement opportunities and supporting their implementation
  • Providing guidance and technical support to junior team members
  • Supporting the finance leadership team with ad hoc analysis and project work

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Qualifications & Experience:

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or finalist with relevant experience)
  • Strong background in financial accounting, with hands-on experience in month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial control
  • Practice-trained (e.g. Big 4 or mid-tier) candidates desirable 
  • Experience in a larger, multi-site, or complex organisation preferred
  • Exposure to asset-heavy or leasing businesses highly desirable
  • Knowledge of fixed asset, lease, or inventory accounting processes is advantageous
  • Working understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS, especially IFRS 16 (leases)
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Navision, or Business Central is strongly preferred
  • Involvement in audit preparation or working with external auditors beneficial
