Stay operational this autumn
Five simple checks to help prepare your hired accommodation for colder weather
As autumn approaches, colder temperatures, increased rainfall and falling leaves can create additional challenges for hired accommodation.
A little preparation can go a long way. Carrying out some simple checks now can help identify potential issues early, prevent avoidable problems and minimise disruption on your site during the colder months.
While your accommodation is on hire, there are also some things you're responsible for looking after. We've made it simple to understand what to check, what to look out for and when to contact Algeco for support.
1. Look for signs of water ingress
Check inside your accommodation for signs of leaks, damp or water ingress, particularly following periods of heavy rain.
Spotting an issue early can help prevent it from becoming a bigger problem. If you notice anything you're concerned about, report it to Algeco rather than attempting repairs yourself.
2. Check gutters and downpipes
Falling leaves and debris can block gutters and downpipes, preventing rainwater from draining effectively.
Look for visible signs of blockages or overflowing water and make sure drainage routes remain clear.
Only carry out activities that can be completed safely. If gutter or downpipe clearance is required, Algeco can provide a quotation for this service.
3. Check windows and doors
Look for damaged seals and check that windows and doors open and close correctly.
If you spot any damage or anything that doesn't look right, let us know so we can advise on the appropriate next step.
4. Test your heating
Don't wait until the first cold morning to discover your heating isn't working.
Switch on heaters and radiators before temperatures drop to check they're operating correctly. If something isn't working as expected, our Customer Support Hub includes practical quick-fix videos covering some of the most common heating issues.
5. Check taps and pipework
Look for dripping taps, leaks or visible signs of damage to pipework.
As temperatures fall, exposed pipework can also become more vulnerable to freezing. Algeco can provide a quotation for pipework lagging if additional protection is required.
Looking after your hired accommodation
While your accommodation is on hire, you're responsible for looking after it and carrying out certain routine maintenance and checks.
There are also repairs and maintenance activities that you should not attempt yourself without agreement from Algeco.
Our guidance is designed to make it easier to understand what you need to look after, what Algeco takes care of and when you should contact us for support.
