How to change a mushroom urinal cartridge
If your waterless urinal is starting to smell, draining slowly, or water is pooling in the bowl, it may be time to replace the active trap insert (black mushroom filter with blue centre).
A key sign that the cartridge needs replacing is when the active trap insert is no longer blue in colour. Over time, the filter becomes less effective, which can lead to odours, poor drainage, and blockages.
Please note: Only take action if it is safe to do so.
- Remove any debris from the urinal bowl and remove the active trap insert (mushroom filter).
- Clean the urinal bowl and trap housing by pouring a bucket of clean water down the waste opening.
- Remove the safety label before inserting the new trap.
- Do not use bleach or acidic cleaners, as these can damage the product and reduce performance.
- Fit the new active trap insert securely into place. Replacement filters are available to purchase through Algeco.
- Pour a cup of water into the urinal to test the flow and ensure correct installation.
- Do not use urinal cubes in this type of urinal, as they can block the pipework.
- Uridan urinal cleaner is recommended for cleaning and maintenance and is also available to purchase through Algeco.
- We recommend changing the cartridge every 2–4 months, depending on usage and the condition of the blue centre.
